Rihanna Breaks Down in Tears As A$AP Rocky Handed Verdict In Shooting Trial Of Face 24 Years in Prison
Emotions were running high for Rihanna as her partner A$AP Rocky was handed the verdict in his shooting trial.
The rapper, who welcomed their first son together in 2022, and their second a year later, was in court in Los Angeles after it was alleged he had shot at former friend A$AP Relli.
Rocky – real name Rakim Mayers – declined a previous offer of a six-month jail sentence and probation, which would have seen him plead guilty to one count in the case.
Instead, it went to trial, and the jury of seven women and five men reached a unanimous not guilty decision after around three hours. The music star was seen celebrating in court, hugging his team and family, including Rihanna.
Rihanna, 36, had an emotional moment in court, as she broke down in tears as her beau hugged her. The emotions continued after they left, as Rihanna broke her silence on the case on social media.
She wrote on Instagram Stories: “The glory belongs to God and to God alone. Thankful, humbled by His mercy.” She also added praying hands emojis.
A$AP Rocky, 36, also had something to say as he left the courtroom. It’s reported that he said: “Thanks y’all for saving my life.”
Umbrella songstress Rihanna was seen on her man’s arm outside the court. He explained he had wanted to shield her from the trial, but “wild horses couldn’t keep her away”.
During the trial, A$AP Relli, who had been associated with Rocky since high school as part of the music group A$AP Mob, testified that he had been unharmed in the alleged shooting. However he claimed one bullet grazed his knuckle.
But A$AP Rocky’s legal team said that the shots he had fired were blanks from a prop gun from a music video. The jury was also told that they could not find him guilty if they found that he was defending himself.
The jury did not speak to the media after the case, so it is unclear why they decided to find him not guilty. However his attorney Joe Tacopina said they “saw through this mirage of a case”.
