Cardi B has found herself at the center of a revived political debate after fans unearthed an old message she posted on X, interpreting it as a swipe at celebrities such as Nicki Minaj who have shown recent support for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
“I will never turn Republican lol [laugh out loud],” Cardi B wrote in 2024 on the platform, then still known as Twitter. While the post drew little fanfare at the time, it resurfaced on December 23, days after Minaj appeared at a Turning Point USA event and declared support for Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The throwback post was reshared by Threads creator @kendollmix, who uploaded a screenshot of the rapper’s comment to the Meta-owned platform. The post has since received more than 50,000 likes, with viewers sharing their thoughts in the comments section.
“She said what she said! Cardi for Congress,” the post was captioned. The revival of Cardi’s statement comes in the wake of Minaj’s recent appearance at the conservative student group’s event, where she posed alongside Erika Kirk.
The image of Minaj onstage at a MAGA-branded event prompted widespread backlash and split reactions among her diverse fan base and professional peers in the entertainment industry.
Though Cardi B did not reference Minaj directly, or any other celebrity for that matter, in the 2024 post, many interpreted the timing of its resurgence—and its recirculation by fans—as a response to the polarized political landscape of 2025.
Several commenters praised Cardi B for her stance. Others accused her of fueling political division or following what one Threads user described as a “herd mentality.”
