Beyonce’s Mom, Ms. Tina Knowles Breaks Down in Tears As She Opens Up On Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, broke down in tears as she vulnerably opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis this week.

The 71-year-old fashion designer revealed that she has been silently battling stage 1 cancer after doctors found two cancerous tumors during a mammogram. After the discovery, Tina underwent surgery to have the tumor removed and underwent a breast reduction.

And now that she is healthy and cancer-free, the businesswoman shared her experience and gave a special shoutout to the supportive women who were her backbone during the tumultuous period of her life.

In an emotional interview on the Loose Women panel, she shared, “Friendships with women is of the utmost importance to me to stay connected. When I went through that [breast cancer], I didn’t even have to tell them what was going on.”

Tina continued, “I just went to Houston, gathered my girlfriends and went to church, and we went out partying at a club and dancing, and I just told them I don’t want to talk about what’s going on right now, and they were all right there for me.”

When asked how she went about breaking the news to her two children, Beyoncé and Solange, and whether or not she felt she had to protect them, Tina confessed, “Yeah, I did, but with this one, they were the first people I told. They were the only ones I told for a while, and they rallied around me.”

Through a cracked voice and tears swelling up in her eyes, she sweetly added, “They always had at those very difficult times. When I went through divorce, I was devastated, and my girls were right there to lift me up, and told me that I could do things, and made me laugh because at those times you need laughter too, they are my rock really.”

It is unclear which divorce she was referring to in this, as Tina has gone through two public divorces in the public eye. In 2024, she and her second husband, actor Richard Lawson, filed for divorce after eight years of marriage.

Last year, Tina did not specifically specify the reason for their breakup, but admitted that she felt that something was missing. After their split, Tina agreed to pay her ex-partner a one-time settlement of $300,000.

Before this, Tina was previously married to Mathew Knowles, the father of her daughters Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. Tina and Mathew were married for 31 years before filing for divorce in November of 2011, following reports of Mathew’s infidelity.

And while Tina might’ve not always had the best of luck when it comes to love, she’s not closing herself off from the possibility entirely. The mother of two shared with Loose Women: “I would love to have a relationship and be in love but if I don’t get that I will be fine. I didn’t know that before 70, I really didn’t.”
